State Fair Closes With Sale Of Champions

The Ohio State Fair is over for another year, and while final attendance figures aren’t in yet, the fair did bring in some big numbers with the Sales of Champions. The great weather for this year’s Ohio State Fair may help the 12 day event top last year’s attendance records, says fair general manager Virgil Strickler. "It’s very, very possible," Strickler says. "Oh, yeah, we are close. Very close. Had a great fair. The Sale of Champions brought in a record bid for reserve grand champion market steer and grand champion swiss cheese for $23,000. And once again, the former head of Gov. John Kasich’s public private JobsOhio entity was among the record setters. Mark Kvamme and his wife Megan bought the grand champion market lamb for $46,500 and turkey for $15,000. The auction brought in $343,500, which is just shy of last year’s record.
