Westerville Walmart To Open After Years Of Legal Fights
A Westerville Walmart is preparing to open this week after more than a decade of legal fights. The first incarnation of the plan was abandoned by another developer after it saw stiff opposition from local residents concerned about the effects on traffic and local businesses. The plan that led to the store opening Wednesday was initially voted down by city council before the developer filed suit. It was held up again when activists made a failed effort to reverse the city council decision with a ballot question. They fell short on petition signatures and it never went before voters. Opening ceremonies for the 24-hour store at Westerville and Schrock Roads are scheduled for Wednesday morning. Walmart says it will create 200 full- and part-time workers.
