Columbus Crew Sold To Precourt Sports Ventures

The Columbus Crew have been sold to a California businessman. Anthony Precourt of Precourt Sports Ventures LLC has purchased a 100 percent stake in the team from its original owners Hunt Sports Group. The purchase price was not disclosed. Precourt said that he is very committed to keeping the team in Columbus, during a press conference on Tuesday at Columbus Crew Stadium as well as in a meeting with Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman on Monday night. Discussions between the Hunt Sports Group and Precourt started four months ago. Clark Hunt, chairman of the Hunts Sports Group said at the time former owners were looking to take on minority investors in the team. He said Precourt’s offer to buy the team outright came as a surprise. The first game the owner attended on April 28, 2013 the Crew’s scoreboard caught on fire. Precourt said he has a background in investment and finance and has served as the managing director of Precourt Capital Management since 2008. The firm’s principal lines of business are investment management services and private equity investing in the energy sector, according to a press release from the team. Precourt, who lives in the San Francisco area, said that doesn’t intend on moving to Columbus but will not be an absentee owner.
