Battelle today announced that it has awarded $460,000 to several central Ohio organizations that teach young people primarily about the arts. The goal is to engage students to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math â STEM â by using different methods. Jeff Wadsworth is president of Battelle. âWe believe that STEM skills are vital for pretty much every category of job. Theyâre fundamentally important whether youâre a biologist, whether youâre a craftsman, whatever youâre doing youâre going to need those basic skills,â? Wadsworth says. Wadsworth says teaching arts skills offers a connection to STEM learning. âWe think that the arts contain some spectacular ways of teaching STEM,â? Wadsworth says. Recipients of Battelle grants include CATCO and Ballet Met as well as a collaboration between Columbus libraries, the Columbus Museum of Art, COSI, the Wexner Center for the Arts and WOSU.
