Shigella Cases Still Increasing In Columbus
Columbus health officials continue to struggle with a bacterial outbreak thatâs sickened hundreds of children. Columbus officials say they haven't seen such a large number of Shigella cases in the past decade. The Columbus Public Department of Health Commissioner says many of this yearâs 770 cases are linked to childcare centers and locations where young children are in close contact. Shigella bacteria cause an intestinal infection with flu-like symptoms. Itâs especially contagious among children in diapers.
