Ohio State University has signed a deal with an Ohio wind farm that could mean the one quarter of the Columbusâs campus energy will come from wind power. Under the deal, OSU will buy as much as much as 50 megawatts of wind energy capacity from Iberdrola Renewables which operates the Blue Creek Wind Farm in Van Wert and Paulding Counties. OSU says it would be one of the largest single largest purchases of renewable energy by any university in the country. Officials say the agreement could add up to 10% to the universityâs energy bill in the short term, but wind energy will save the university in the long term as other energy prices increase. Ron Sega, OSU Vice President for energy and environment, says the agreement also provides OSU students with the opportunity to research and test wind energy technology. American Electric Power has agreed to deliver the electricity from the wind farm to Ohio state.
