Ohioans Face Looming Deadline For "Demolition Grants"
Ohio communities with blighted neighborhoods have until Monday to apply for demolition grants. The office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has $75,000,000 set aside to tear down abandoned, foreclosed homes. There are at least 100,000 abandoned properties across the state, including more than 6,000 in Columbus. Demolition advocates say razing these sites prevents crime and helps maintain property values. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced the Moving Ohio Forward Demolition program earlier this year. It's funded with money from the national mortgage settlement.
