Committee to School Board: Delay Levy Effort Until Next Fall

An advisory committee is recommending Columbus City Schools administrators not pursue a levy for the fall ballot. The committee instead voted Tuesday morning to put a levy on next fall’s ballot. The Columbus Board of Education will consider the proposal at Tuesday night’s meeting. School spokesman Jeff Warner says the committee did not want to rush a proposal. "And they wanted to make sure that the community had time to fully digest that, and that we have an aggressive communications outreach effort to engage the community so that the community can have tn opportunity to really understand what we’re looking to do," Warner said. The new, 7.5-mil levy would increase property taxes on a $100,000 home by about $230 a year. It would fund existing expenses beginning in the 2014-2015 school year.
