Ohio Bank Displays Famous Signers' Personal Checks
Dozens of personal checks signed by presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, author Mark Twain and other famous people have been rediscovered by an Ohio bank and are being shared with the public. The Plain Dealer in Cleveland reports 70 checks have been stored in a vault at Huntington Bank's Columbus headquarters since 1983 after Huntington took over Union Commerce Bank. Huntington officials decided last year to start publicly displaying some of those checks after an employee looking through them was struck by their historical significance. Some of the checks are being displayed at Huntington's Brooklyn branch in suburban Cleveland. Branches in Akron, Canton and Toledo will have similar displays this year.
