Ohio Minimum Wage Going Up

Beginning Sunday, Ohio’s lowest paid workers are getting a four percent raise. That’s because Ohio’s minimum wage will rise from $7.40 an hour to $7.70. Tim Burga is head of the Ohio AFL-CIO. Ohio AFL-CIO head, Bill Burga says service sector workers will benefit the most. He says the minimum wage bump also helps workers making slightly more. "What we find is that not only the minimum wage earners get an increase when the wage rate goes up, but also those just above the minimum wage rate. From employers who tend to like to stay above the minimum rate wage, we see raises from them, as well," said Burga. The AFL-CIO in 2006 helped put a proposal on the Ohio ballot and voters approved the amendment to raise the state’s minimum wage, and add a yearly cost-of-living adjustment.
