Ex-Ohio St., NFL QB Freed, Put on House Arrest
Former Ohio State and NFL quarterback Art Schlichter has been placed on house arrest while he awaits sentencing on fraud charges. Plea agreements in state and federal court call for Schlichter to serve about 10 years behind bars on charges linked to a million-dollar sports ticket scheme. A judge released him without bond on Monday, placing strict restrictions on his house arrest. The 51-year-old Schlichter declined comment as he left the courtroom. Authorities say Schlichter, whose NFL career was derailed by a gambling addiction, stole thousands of dollars from people he falsely promised college and NFL football tickets. He will serve part of his prison time for violating probation in Indiana on 1997 forgery and theft convictions in that state.
