Ohio Senate Committee to Vote on Redistricting

An Ohio Senate committee is expected to approve a new, Republican-proposed congressional district map that has drawn the ire of Democrats and voter advocacy groups. The GOP-controlled Government Oversight and Reform Committee is meeting today to consider the map that opponents say gerrymanders districts to protect the Republican majority in Ohio's U.S. House delegation. Committee Chairman Keith Faber says he believes the maps follow legal and demographic requirements. If approved, it could get a floor vote later in the day. The committee is also expected to take up a proposal to move Ohio's primary from March to May. Both bills are opposed by Democrats. Senate Republicans are considering a legislative tactic to protect the bills from repeal efforts and roadblocks.
