Judge Defends Decision Allowing 17-Year-Olds To Wed

When Franklin County Probate Judge Alan Acker granted the request from two 17-year-olds to marry it touched off a firestorm of controversy. The two teens, Dustin Goldman and Gabrielle Squeglia were too young; the legal age to marry in Ohio is at least 18. Judge Acker arrived at his ruling without consulting Gabrielle's mother. He says that he was concerned for the safety of the girl - who is pregnant - and for her unborn baby.
