Prescription Drug Abuse Increases Among Columbus Youth
A researcher at the Wright State University School of Medicine says a new report finds a significant increase in the abuse of prescription medications in central Ohio.
Dr. Robert Carlson says drugs commonly abused in the Columbus area include percocet, oxycontin, methodone and morphine. And Carlson says a disturbing trend discovered 7 years ago in Ohio continues to grow across Ohio, young people abusing prescription pain killers and moving to heroin.
Dr. Robert Carlson is with the Ohio Substance Abuse Monitoring Network. He says the report on the current state of drug abuse is based on focus groups conducted with active users who are asked to rate the availability of drugs during the past six months.
