Former Attorneys General and Candidates Speak Out on Issue 5
Two former Ohio attorneys general have joined two candidates running for the office of AG in a show of support for the state's payday lending law.
Former AG Jim Petro says the new state law that toughens regulations for payday lenders is designed to protect Ohioans.
Both major party candidates for attorney general agree with Petro. But Independent candidate Robert Owens tells Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles, government should not be involved in regulating lending between consenting adults.
The industry is running a big-money ad campaign urging voters vote no on Issue 5 to overturn Ohio's new regulations. A yes vote on Issue 5 means the new regulations remain in effect.
