Ohio Attorney General Sues OSU area Businesses over Alleged Violations of Consumer Protection Laws

Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann is suing two restaurants on the Ohio State University campus who said they were offering free food to students.

Dann says the advertising was illegal because the food was not really free. He says students were being forced to sign up for a Citibank credit card in order to get the food.

Dann says the scheme is not only unfair but also violates the state's consumer law in four ways. Dann is suing Potbelly and La Bamba restaurants, the Campus Dimensions Marketing firm and Citibank.

He says the companies could be forced to pay up to 25 thousand dollars for each violation of the consumer sales practices act if they are found guilty.

Calls placed to the restaurants and Citibank for comment on this story were not returned.
