Ohio Rep. Gillmor found dead

A GOP leadership aide says northwest Ohio Congressman Paul Gillmor has been found dead in his Washington apartment.

The aide says the body of the 68-year-old Republican was found by staff members who went to his home after he failed to show up for work. There's no word on the cause of death.

Gillmor represented Ohio's 5th District in the Bowling Green area of the state and was first elected to Congress in 1988, after squeaking through the primary with a 27-vote victory.

Earlier, he rose to president of the Ohio Senate during 22 years there.

House GOP Leader John Boehner says fellow Ohio Congressman Paul Gillmor served his constituents with dedication and distinction. Gillmor represented the 5th District in northwest and north-central Ohio. He had been in the state last week to attend town meetings and tour areas hit hard by the recent flooding. Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted says the congressman will be greatly missed. (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
