Man Convicted of Woods Murder Gets Maximum Sentence

A fitness trainer was sentenced Friday for the murder of Columbus native Catherine Woods.

The director of the Ohio State University Marching Band, Jon Woods, told a judge in New York City that Paul Cortez deserved nothing less than life in prison for killing Woods' daughter, Catherine.

The judge sentenced Cortez to 25 years to life in prison for the 2005 murder of 21-year-old Catherine Woods. She was a classically-trained dancer who had moved to Manhattan hoping to dance on Broadway.

Cortez has hired a new attorney who says they will file an appeal next week.
