Columbus Transit Agency Avoids Strike

After a year of stops and starts, federal mediation and a threatened strike, members of the Transport Workers Union Local 208 approved a proposed three year contract during the week-end. Union President Theotis James announced the results on a taped message at the union hall. "The contract ratification vote was 359 for the contract, 114 against the contract." says James.

The new contract contains a $1,600 signing bonus or double the amount from a previous proposal that was rejected. But, the new plan also delays the start of a 2 per cent pay raise until May of 2007. The COTA Board of Trustees is expected to approve the contract later this week.
