Schottenstein's has been part of the southside neighborhood since 1912.The modern store at 1887 South Parsons opened in 1930 just as the Great Depression was taking hold. Jeff Knoll, a small business owner on Parsons Avenue, says the south side will feel economic ripple effects when Schottenstein's closes. Knoll says Schottenstein's closing is just the latest in a series of economic blows. Business First Editor Dominic Cappa says retailers crunch numbers to decide store closings. And, he expresses little surprise that Schottenstein's decided 93 years on South Parsons Avenue was long enough.
