Biden Campaign Plans Virtual Events In Ohio

Ohio Democrats are hosting a series of roundtables for former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign this week, as President Donald Trump prepares a fundraising visit to the state.

Sen. Sherrod Brown, Portage County Commissioner Kathleen Clyde and other Democratic officials will lead the events, sharing the Biden campaign’s proposals for recovering from the economic damage of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the campaign.

President Donald Trump won Ohio in 2016, flipping a swing state that twice gave its 18 electoral votes to Barack Obama. The president will make an appearance at a campaign fundraiser in the Cleveland area Thursday.

The Trump campaign made an $18.4 million television ad buy in Ohio through Election Day, and the Biden campaign is running ads in Toledo and Youngstown, according to public disclosures filed with the Federal Communications Commission.

Biden and California Sen. Kamala Harris spoke at the Ohio Democratic Party’s virtual convention over the weekend.

Biden and Trump will travel to Cleveland Sept. 29 for the fall’s first debate, hosted by the Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that Biden himself would take part in the roundtables. In fact, state Democratic officials will be speaking on his campaign's behalf.
