Cleveland Summer Events Canceled, Postponed

Updated: 6:55 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2020.

Clevelanders are preparing for a pretty unusual summer – one filled with canceled plans and social distancing.

This unusual summer also means a number of Cleveland-favorite events are either canceled or postponed due to coronavirus concerns.

Friday morning, the board of the Cuyahoga County Fair announced it was canceling this year's event. Board President Tim Fowler said the fair is complex and one error can ruin a year of planning and preparation.

“The fair board is really committed for a strong comeback in 2021,” Fowler said, “and we expect that event will fulfill the public's view and what they really have expected us to provide.”

The 124th Cuyahoga County Fair at the Berea fairgrounds was scheduled for the week of August 11.

Pride in the CLE, the annual LGBTQ+ march hosted by the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, traditionally takes place in June, when communities across the country celebrate Pride Month.

While the march is currently postponed until September, the LGBT Community Center is preparing a virtual celebration if there are still public health concerns about large gatherings in a few months.

“It is very important to us to keep this, even if we don’t have a physical Pride, that we have a virtual Pride so people are uplifted and they don’t feel forgotten about,” said Lauren R. Welch, the LGBT Community Center’s communications and marketing manager.

The LGBT Community Center will be closer to a final decision on this celebration in a couple of weeks, Welch said, preparations are already underway for smaller events to supplement Pride in the CLE, such as a speakers series and virtual happy hours.

The Cleveland Metroparks Summer Concert Series – which includes Edgewater LIVE and Euclid Beach LIVE – is also cancelled for the season, as are numerous other annual events, including:
