Cleveland Hopkins Resumes Curbside Pick-ups And Drop-offs

Taxis, limos, and rideshare vehicles will once again make curbside pick-ups and drop-offs at Cleveland Hopkins Airport starting Monday.

In an effort to ease congestion on the aging terminal access ramps, airport officials last January diverted all commercial traffic to a nearby holding area while reinforcing the roadways. That move infuriated both drivers and passengers. But that’s not why the decision was recently reversed, according to airport director Robert Kennedy.

“We had originally planned on starting construction in March and being finished on June 18th,” he said. “But when we got under contract, our contractor advised us that there was eight to ten weeks worth of fabrication which we could not get done in time for the Major League All-Star break.”

Since Cleveland is hosting the All-Star game in July, the decision was made to delay the ramp repair until later in the year and bring back curbside access for the time being.

Kennedy said the airport is also evaluating proposals for the construction of a new Ground Transportation Center that will handle car and shuttle traffic in and out of Hopkins.
