For the third time in less than a year, the Ohio Department of Health has a new director, however, the new leader has already helped the state navigate the pandemic.

On Monday, Vanderhoff will become the health department's new director, and Stephanie McCloud, who has served in that job for nine months, will go back to head the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation. Both moves require approval from the Ohio Senate

Gov. Mike DeWine didn’t say why he’s making the change but touted Vanderhoff’s record and experience.

"I am pleased that Dr. Vanderhoff has agreed to serve as Director of the Ohio Department of Health. His medical and organizational expertise will help the department as we move forward and continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic," DeWine said in a statement.

Vanderhoff has served as the chief medical officer since November. Prior to that, he was the chief medical officer for Ohio Health.
