Opera Columbus' Peggy Kriha-Dye & Soprano Talya Lieberman Discuss La Boheme
Opera Columbus has pulled La Boheme into the 21st century. Their modern, new production of the Puccini classic is set in the wreckage of post-Katrina New Orleans.
Artistic Director Peggy Kriha-Dye and soprano Talya Lieberman - winner of the 2014 Cooper-Bing Vocal Competition - joined me live on Classical 101 to discuss this production and Lieberman's Columbus debut.
Opera Columbus Artistic Director Peggy Kriha-Dye says the setting of La Boheme has been brought into the 21st century, which may allow audiences to better identify with Puccini's characters. While some rules are being "broken" in the staging and set, one thing that is not compromised...the music.
Peggy discusses the the new set design for La Boheme and the team that made it happen.
Opera Columbus offers three opportunities to experience this Puccini classic. Wednesday, March 2nd at 7:30pm is a preview performance/dress rehearsal - then Friday, March 4th at 7:30pm and Sunday March 6th at 2:00pm. Details at OperaColumbus.org.
