A Grand Sonata for Flute and Guitar and Vivaldi on Next Fretworks
Fretworks begins 2015 with guitarist Jason Vieaux and a couple of selections from his Grammy Award nominated disc, "Play." Gramophone Magazine called him "among the elite of today's classical guitarists." Next month, he'll join me in the studio for conversation and music, but for now, we'll sample some this fine guitarist's recorded work. We'll hear the Grand Sonata for Flute and Guitar by the early 19th century guitar virtuoso and composer, Mauro Giuliani. Its a wonderful piece, and I'll have a fine recording made by flutist James Galway with guitarist Kazihito Yamashita back in the mid 1980's. Angel Romero will be the soloist in a concerto by Antonio Vivaldi for guitar, string orchestra and bassoon, and three selections from the Spanish Dances by Enrique Granados are performed by the New Pro Arte Guitar Trio. Join me Saturday evening and Wednesday evening at 7 for music of the classical guitar on Fretworks on Classical 101.
