Villa-Lobos Guitar Concerto on Fretworks

This Saturday evening on Fretworks, I'll have the Guitar Concerto from Brazil's best-known composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos.  This piece was written for Andres Segovia, who gave the first performance of this popular work in 1956.  We'll hear the Uruguayan guitarist Eduardo Fernandez in a recording with the English Chamber Orchestra. We'll hear a sampling from the new recording "Between Two Worlds" by the young Israeli mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital.  Richard Galliano will accompany on the accordion  for the Csardas by Vittorio Monti. Paul Galbraith will perform a daunting piece by Johann Sebastian Bach, the Solo Violin Partita No. 3 in E in an arrangement for an 8-string guitar.  This instrument is held like a cello and has a metal end pin resting on a resonating box on the floor to produce a deeper and richer sound than a normal guitar. Adam Levin will play Handeliana by Ricardo Llorca, and the Italian Guitar Trio will perform a trio by Franz Joseph Haydn. That's all beginning Saturday at 7 pm here on Classical 101. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmZKk_GCxsw
