Columbus Symphony Broadcasts Resume March 2 at 1 PM

For years, Eric French and I would huddle in the broom closet way atop the Ohio Theater that became our broadcast studio to air live the Saturday night Columbus Symphony performances. There's always some advance work in putting together intermission features: interviews with maestri and artists, CSO musicians, etc. I'm of the mind that live-live is always better radio than taped-live. Still, our Saturday nights were not without problems. Contrary to rumor, I do not have a loud voice. Even so I was careful to speak in blunted, albeit round tones so as not to disturb the audience sitting 5 feet a way from me. Obviously I never spoke during the music, but ins and outs, the occasional pithy throwaway until pianos were rolled out or in, or soloists announced etc. Fun was the night when a woman tried to climb through our open window to hit me with her program while I was speaking. I'm on live mind you, so I can't advise her to remove herself. I think Eric or Kevin eventually swatted her back. There was the very nice couple right outside the window who sat for every concert, she reading a novel with an itty bitty book light, sharing a large box of Junior Mints.  More than one patron-and a manager who shall be nameless-barreled their way while we were on air live, drink in hand, giving me comfortable knowledge that CAPA's bars and concessionaires were doing good business. Kevin or Eric swatted them too.  I kept talking. It will come as no surprise that the live broadcasts ended 2 years ago.  (I miss them) This year we have a new time and a new set up. We are all ready to give you the 2013-2014 CSO Classical Series Concerts. Join us Sunday afternoons at 1 beginning March 2.  Here's the schedule for March. Enjoy! I'll be home with Junior Mints, and hopefully this year no one will get swatted.
