'Beginnings' and 'Firsts' on The American Sound, 6 pm Saturday

If you're like me, then you couldn't wait to check off the first thing on your New Year's to-do list. As they say, the journey begins with a single step. So in the spirit of putting the first weekend of the new year on the right foot, tune in to The American Sound Saturday at 6 pm for beautiful and inspiring American music about "firsts," "new things" and "beginnings." We'll hear the first piano concerto composed by an American woman, the New Federal Overture by one of America’s first composers – Jams Hewitt – and Cole Porter’s Begin the Beguine. And we'll take the Gospel Train to a new destination with one of Morton Gould's Spirituals for Strings. Join me for American music for a good beginnings on The American Sound, Saturday at 6 pm on Classical 101!

Jennifer Hambrick unites her extensive backgrounds in the arts and media and her deep roots in Columbus to bring inspiring music to central Ohio as Classical 101’s midday host. Jennifer performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago before earning a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
