First Anniversary for Fretworks on Classical 101

The first Fretworks broadcast for 2014 this Saturday evening at 7 also marks the one year anniversary of the show.  Devoted primarily to music of the modern classical guitar, Fretworks also features music of its historical predecessors of the Romantic and Baroque eras, as well as related plucked stringed instruments such as the lute and mandolin. It's an intriguing adventure for me to scour our large music library for new or not often heard artists and musical works, as well as familiar favorites.  This week, for instance, Paraguayan guitarist Berta Rojas plays music of  Agustin Barrios from a fairly recent CD and John Williams performs his arrangement of Bach's Violin Concerto No. 2 in E with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in a recording going back to the mid 1980's. Also on this Saturday's program, I'll have music of the Renaissance for two lutes with Ronn McFarlane and William Simms.  We'll hear Debussy with the Cologne Trio and contemporary pieces, Sunburst and  Reflections from Andrew York. Join me Saturday evening at 7 as we begin our second year of Fretworks on Classical 101. http://youtu.be/R2sE5a9D78s
