Classical 101

From Bach to Bartok on Next Fretworks

The next Fretworks broadcast Saturday evening at 7pm on Classical 101 will feature among the musical offerings, Canadian guitarist Jerome Ducharme with Three Spanish Pieces by Joaquin Rodrigo, and Nicola Hall will play the popular Guitar Concerto No. 1 in D by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. JoAnn Falletta, who is better known as a conductor and the music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, is also a fine guitarist.  She'll be playing guitar with flutist Debra Wendells Cross and clarinetist Robert Alemany in her own arrangement of Bela Bartok's Rumanian Folk Dances. With the Christmas holiday season upon us, we'll also hear the Modern Mandolin Quartet with some Bach and Giovanni De Chiaro will play several of his own arrangements, including Let it Snow and Sleigh Ride, which may be apropos by Saturday. Join me for music of the classical guitar on Fretworks Saturday at 7. Above is Jerome Ducharme, the First Prize Winner of the 2005 Guitar Foundation of America Competition, performing at that event.
