From China & Japan to Spain, Italy, and U.S.A. on Fretworks

The Asian Festival is taking place in Columbus this weekend and coinciding with that event, several performers and musical works from that part of the world will be featured on the next Fretworks, Saturday evening at 7 on Classical 101. Chinese guitarist Xuefei Yang will be back in a recording of music from The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto by He Zhanhao and Chen Gang, arranged for solo guitar.  Japanese guitarist Kazuhito Yamashita will be the soloist in the less often heard Guitar Concerto No. 2 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, the Italian born composer who made his home in Hollywood in the 1930s.  Brandon Yip, the guitarist, not the Canadian hockey player, will perform Sakura Theme and Variations by Yuquijiro Yocoh, a beautiful setting of the famous Japanese folk song. We'll also have American guitarist Sharon Isbin for a piece by Regino Sainz de la Maza, the Spanish guitarist who was the soloist for the premier of Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez in 1940.  Russian guitarist Vladimir Gorbach will play Rondoletto by the early 19th Century Italian guitarist composer, Mauro Giuliani. Join me for the next Fretworks on Saturday at 7pm.  Here's Song of India a musical impression of India from Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's opera Sadko: http://youtu.be/fDROhyISCF0
