Lakes, Filling Stations and More on Saturday's The American Sound

As April struggles to free itself from winter's grasp, it brings sweet indications of spring - and also National Poetry Month. Join me this Saturday at 6 pm when The American Sound features music to bring out the poetry all around us. We'll hear one of American composer Kevin Kaska's gorgeous works inspired by a William Butler Yeats poem. Charles Ives' Pulitzer Prize-winning Third Symphony will take us back to the poetic nostalgia of New England town gatherings. The great American pianist Earl Wild's improvisation on "Someone to Watch Over Me" will bring to mind a little love poetry. And we'll hear the poetry of the Great American Road Trip in music from Virgil Thomson's music for the ballet Filling Station. Tune in for music and poetry for your Saturday evening at 6 on The American Sound!

Jennifer Hambrick unites her extensive backgrounds in the arts and media and her deep roots in Columbus to bring inspiring music to central Ohio as Classical 101’s midday host. Jennifer performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago before earning a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
