Paganini Violin Concerto Arranged For Guitar On Fretworks

On the next Fretworks Saturday evening at 7, we have a big concerto for guitar by Niccolo Paganini, the great early 19th Century violin virtuoso.  Actually, its an arrangement of his Violin Concerto No. 2 in B minor for guitar and orchestra. Paganini himself played the guitar, an instrument he picked up when he gave up his public performances on the violin for three years.  The pieces he wrote for the guitar were not intended for public performance and don't display the brilliance of his violin works.  The transcription of the violin concerto, which does contain virtuosic passages, was made by guitarist Nicola Hall, who will be the soloist in our recording. We'll also have Ferdinando Carulli's arrangement for guitar and piano of Beethoven's setting of a theme by Mozart from The Magic Flute. Music of Heitor Villa-Lobos and Venezuelan Waltzes by Antonio Lauro will also be featured on the program. Join us for the next Fretworks with guitarists Nicola Hall, Julian Bream, Jesus Castro Balbi, and Victor Villadangos here on Classical 101. http://youtu.be/JFylewBffuE
