Michala Petri to perform with ProMusica at Josephinum; Southern

Central Ohio gets a very special treat this weekend when recorder virtuosa Michala Petri joins ProMusica Chamber Orchestra for two performances. When most of us think of recorders, we have flashbacks to music class in elementary school as we were given our first opportunities to make music.  When you hear Michala Petri, you'll realize just how far this is from your fourth grade music class.  If Michala Petri has her way, the instrument will continue to move further and further from it's roots. Petri will be joining me for an in-studio performance and interview at 9 a.m. on Friday. Petri, as any musician, has long advocated stretching musical boundaries.  She will play two selections each evening with ProMusica.  Telemann and Vivaldi will be featured at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Pontifical College Josephinum.  Petri will then reprise the Vivaldi at 7 pm. on Sunday and play a concerto written for her by hot London composer Richard Harvey...Concerto Incantico, just one of a long list of music written for the talented Danish musician. Also on the program, Grieg's Holberg Suite (both evenings), Elgar's Serenade for Strings (Saturday only), and Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture (Sunday only).  As is always the case when ProMusica plays at the Southern Theatre, you're invited to stay afterwards for Coda, a post-concert conversation with Ms. Petri, ProMusicia Music Director-designate David Danzmayr, and myself. You know, it's sounds as though you'd better come both nights!
