Exciting New Season in Store for ProMusica Chamber Orchestra

The 2012-2013 season is full of great music, old friends, and new faces for ProMusica Columbus.  As always, they have an exciting season scheduled.

One of the new faces at ProMusica Chamber Orchestra is David Danzmayr, ProMusica's Music Director-Designate.

I could try to tell you what he brings to this ensemble, but it's better if he does it himself. Meet David Danzmayr, ProMusica Music Director-Designate from ProMusica Columbus on Vimeo. Flying With a Cello is One Musician's Nightmare Cellist Paul Katz is best known as a member of the Cleveland Quartet.  He is also currently on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music.

Paul Katz often travels with Andrea Guarneri...not someone he is dating, but rather, his beloved cello built in 1669.

Everything went smoothly on a recent trip until, after boarding the plane and strapping the instrument into the seat he had purchased for it, a flight attendant informed Mr. Katz that there had been a change of plans. Flutist's Year-Long Tribute to Debussy Attracts Unique Audience

If practice makes perfect, then flutist Mimi Stillman is going to get as close as humanly possible, at least on one piece of Debussy's music.  She's also going to be pretty tired of it.

Mimi Stillman, founder and artistic director of the Philadelphia-based Dolce Suono Ensemble, is posting videos of herself playing Debussy's Syrinx in venues around the world...some of them planned, and some of them not.

"A year is a long time, it's true. I don't know where it will take me - or what I will find in the music...but I know I'll find something," said Stillman in an interview with philly.com. The idea was launched on Debussy's actual birthday, August 22nd.  Stillman, who entered Curtis Institute of Music when she was 12, developed an affinity for Debussy when she was quite young. Dolce Suono Ensemble will open their season with "Debussy and Jazz" (Oct. 21, at Philadelphia's Trinity Center for Urban Life), pairing the urbane French composer with Jelly Roll Morton and the Claude Bolling. Stillman is posting the recordings on her homepage.  You can see one of them, recorded in Castelmuzio, Italy, below...
