Getting to the Big Leagues in Boston

Many a youngster dreams of playing professional sports.  Whether it's baseball, football, or basketball, most of us have daydreamed about hitting the winning shot, a walk-off home run, or scoring the winning touchdown as the clock hits zero.

Mike Tetreault's childhood dream was to play in Boston, home of some of the world's most storied franchises. Â The Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and...The Boston Symphony.

Tetreault is a percussionist.  After completing studies in classical percussion at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., and at the Royal Academy of Music in London, he managed to make a pretty good career for himself, most recently in Colorado.  Then, the word began to spread. There were two openings in the percussion section of the Boston Symphony.  Thus began a year-long odyssey which culminated in that long walk across the stage of Symphony Hall in Boston to audition for the job of a lifetime.   Ushers the Unsung Heroes of the Cleveland Orchestra They do their job unobtrusively, making sure your ticket is scanned and helping you find your seat properly with program in hand.  If you crinkle too many candy wrappers or begin tweeting during a performance, you can expect a visit.  They are the ushers at Severance Hall and Blossom Music Center in Cleveland. It's their duty to handle latecomers, quiet chatty types and enforce basic rules of behavior. They also suffer the anger of patrons upset about parking and traffic, and are typically the ones who alert authorities and clear the area when someone falls or suffers a heart attack.

House Manager Judith Diehl says that "On average, a medical incident occurs about once per concert."

None of them consider it a job...all of them get to hear one of the world's great orchestras on a regular basis.
