ProMusica Taps Two World-Class Musicians for Key Roles

Co-founder/Music Director Timothy Russell Prepares to Step into Conductor Laureate Position

It can be enormously unsettling for an orchestra to change Music Directors, especially when that person has been there since the very beginning.  However, when an organization plans a transition the way ProMusica Chamber Orchestra has, it can be nearly seamless. Timothy Russell has been at the artistic helm of ProMusica since the first notes were played in 1978.  As he prepares to step into the role of Conductor Laureate, two exciting musicians have been brought into the ProMusica family to continue the legacy of musical innovation established by Maestro Russell. In comments made to the Columbus Dispatch, Russell said,

“I feel confident that the company is in good hands with such dynamic, energized and exceedingly talented musicians. (David) Danzmayr and (Vadim) Gluzman will bring new musical, cultural and social perspectives to what’s always been a very innovative organization. . . . ProMusica has been a large part of my life for two-thirds of my life, but everything has its time, and I’m feeling very comfortable with the transition.â€?

Danzmayr served for three years as assistant conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.  Gluzman is already a familiar face to ProMusica regulars, as he has performed with and led the orchestra on several occasions, becoming an audience, and musician, favorite in the process. As someone who has a long history with this organization, I see exciting things on the horizon for ProMusica.  I must say it is difficult to see my good friend Timothy Russell step down from this position, but I believe the orchestra has chosen two people who can continue the dream set in motion in 1978 by Russell and co/founder Richard Early. Timothy Russell will conduct ProMusica in several performances this coming season, as well as for their inaugural Summer Music Series presented by PNC Arts Alive at the Franklin Park Conservatory.  Concerts at the conservatory are no charge.  I hope you'll enjoy those concerts and, at the same time, take the opportunity to thank Timothy Russell for all he has done for music lovers in Central Ohio.
