How Hitler Helped Create Hollywood Music

The "Golden Age" of Film Music Ushered in by the Tragic Days of the Third Reich

Paul Chihara is a Japanese-American who grew up in a relocation camp during WWII, first in Idaho and later in Seattle.  Even with the indignities suffered by so many Japanese-Americans during that period, Mr. Chihara says "far from the opera houses or concert halls of Vienna or of New York–to hear such magical music, married to equally magical images. That's entertainment – and a lot more!" Read How Hitler Helped Create Hollywood Music (The OREL Foundation)

The 12 Benefits of Music Education

Pianist Awadagin Pratt is committed to his craft.  To hear him speak is to quickly understand that music is more than just something to listen to or perform.  Rather, it is something to be breathed in, absorbed, tasted, and savored.  He is also committed to education, so that the next generation has the foundation to appreciate music the way he does.  To that end, the Pratt Music Foundation was established in his father's memory in 1996.  A paraphrase of Plato's Republic is prominently displayed on their website..."I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for in the patterns of music and all the arts are the keys of learning."  Mr. Pratt is currently on the faculty of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Artwork to be Auctioned Off by Museum

Several years ago a young artist, frustrated with trying to get his art seen, sneaked into several New York art museums and hung his work.  Inspired by that, a young Polish art student by the name of Andrzej Sobiepan managed not only to get his artwork into the National Museum in Poland, he also hung it. So if you are an aspiring composer, maybe you just slip your manuscript into the conductor's stack, drop parts on each musician's stand, and see what happens!
