Music@Menlo Festival in full swing

Music@Menlo in full swing

After an exciting opening weekend, the Music@Menlo Festival is in full swing on the San Francisco Bay.  Music@Menlo was founded nine years ago by Wu Han and David Finkel "as an environment of immersion in great music, a place of exploration, enlightenment, and enrichment." Though most of us cannot attend the festival, which runs through mid-August, we can still experience it.  Music@Menlo offers many opportunities for watching live performances online, with artists such as clarinetist David Shifrin, pianist Wu Han, and cellist David Finkel. Throughout the festival, you'll find daily updates and information in this space, so be sure to check in often. Philip Glass ALSO has a festival

Apparently not to be outdone, Philip Glass now is the latest musician to attach his name to a festival...this one the Days and Nights Festival, which opens August 19th,  just a few days after Music@Menlo wraps up. The Philip Glass Ensemble will perform several times throughout the festival, as will YOA: Orchestra of the Americas, under the direction of Placido Domingo. Making music along the 16th Street Mall

The term street musician just took on a whole new meaning in Denver, after the Downtown Denver Project sprinkled eight pianos around the city.  Eight quickly grew to seventeen, as more and more people donated their instruments to the cause, most of them through craigslist.
