Jazz and Ribfest Features Local, National Acts...And Great Food!

A hot time on the river tonight (and tomorrow, and Sunday)

Yeah, it's hot...but hey, it's July!  Why not make the best of it by head to the 2011 Jazz and Ribfest today through Sunday in the Columbus Arena District along Spring & Long Streets, McFerson Commons and North Bank Park.  The Mark Flugge Quintet featuring Jody Mancini, the New Basics Brass Band (made up of members of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra), Dwight Lenox and the Lenox Avenue Express, Dave Koz, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy are just a few of the great acts set to perform. Opera arias you know that you don't know you know

Mention opera to most people and you get one of several predictable responses:

  1. I hate opera!
  2. I don't know much about opera.
  3. I like some of the music, but not enough to sit through an entire production.
  4. I love opera!

Well, if you've ever watched Seinfeld (Pagliacci), Saturday Night Live (Adam Sandler as Operaman), The Three Stooges (Lucia di Lammermoor), or Ren and Stimpy (a HUGE list), then you may be an opera liker, if not lover. WQXR in New York City compiled a list of opera references from television shows of many eras.  Let us know...it might turn into a radio program! Read You Can Do That on Television (WQX-Aria)

Another source for Classical recordings is shuttered
