Two Ohio Orchestras Among Recipients of 2011 NEA Grants

The National Endowment for the Arts recently announced grant recipients for their 2011 Access to Artistic Excellence grant program. The League of American Orchestras reports that two Ohio orchestras were among 88 orchestras receiving grants from the NEA program this year. Cleveland-based baroque orchestra Apollo's Fire received $30,000 to support Handel and Vivaldi Fireworks, a tour to various U.S. cities with performances, masterclasses and outreach activities featuring countertenor Philippe Jaroussky. And the Cleveland Orchestra received $80,000 to support their Contemporary Soloists project. The orchestra will feature guest artist eighth blackbird in performances which will also be broadcast on WCLV-FM. Congratulations also to From The Top and NPR Music, two grants in the Arts on Radio and Television category. You can hear From The Top every Sunday evening at 7 p.m. on Classical 101.
