Tenor Michael Fabiano To Perform Guiseppe Verdi's Requiem

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Chorus performs Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem at the Ohio Theatre, March 11 through 13, 2011. The tenor soloist is Michael Fabiano. At only 26 years old, Fabiano has already amassed an impressive resume, performing at the Met, the English National Opera and at La Scala. When asked about preparations for his first performances of the Verdi Requiem, this coming weekend in Columbus, Fabiano says he works with a vocal coach but he also spends time working through the score as spoken text. "I sit in my room at night and I read through the words," he says, "and [I] really try to get the words in my mouth and be able to communicate them, not just through singing, but through text and have the opportunity to really get it in my body." Fabiano says he has listens to older recordings in preparation for his performances as a reference but not necessarily things to imitate. For his upcoming performance of Verdi's Requiem, Fabiano says he has been listening to newer performances of Verdi's Messa da Requiem, in particular, one conducted by Herbert von Karajan, with Luciano Pavarotti (tenor). "[Pavarotti] had such an incredible and exquisite voice," he says.
