Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the London Underground

When one thinks of the London Underground subway (or any other city's transit system), "elegant," "refined" and "balanced" are likely not the first adjectives that come to mind. For the next two weeks, Britain's BBC Radio 3 is trying to change that by launching the Genius of Mozart, a series of performances of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's sublime music all around London -- even in the city's famed Underground. According to a story in the Belfast Telegraph, musicians from the BBC Symphony Orchestra will perform concerts at four different London Underground stations as part of the festivities. London mayor Boris Johnson says he hopes the subterranean serenades will "brighten up the daily commute." And what of the many other London Underground stations where musicians will not perform? In fact, dozens of them already pipe in classical music to welcome the commuters who pass through.
