Jon Nakamatsu Gives His Perspective On Losing

As I was preparing for my program this morning, I noticed that Jon Nakamatsu was scheduled to play Chopin's Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise. As I was looking at his website, I noticed a link to video of a speech he gave at the 5th International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs. Anyone who has been to band competitions, entered juried contests, or competed before a panel of judges knows how stressful it can be. We also know that, since there is only one winner, most of us inevitably lose. It can be especially intimidating when one of the panel of judges is former Cliburn Piano Competition Gold Medalist Jon Nakamatsu. In a speech which should be required listening for anyone who plans to compete, Nakamatsu gives us a little perspective. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5smz7gycqQ
