Let's get interactive! Here's a list of performances and events in Central Ohio's new arts season about which I'm most excited. A date in RED indicates this will be heard on WOSU 89.7 FM. A date in BLUE means it will be heard live.
- October 9, 10**, 11:Â Columbus Symphony, Ohio Theater. Beethoven: Symphony 9 in D, with the wonderful all volunteer Columbus Symphony Chorus. Its so good to have our orchestra back home for a fall opening. Gunther Herbig conducts these performances. He's a perfect mix of drama, warmth and authority in this music. (Note: all Saturday night classical series performances by the Columbus Symphony are broadcast live on WOSU 89.7)
- October 16: Anonymous 4, at Mees Hall, Capital University, presented by Early Music in Columbus. I don't know yet if we are recording EMIC's concerts, but the Anonymous 4 will visit WOSU studios that week to tape an arts feature.
- October 17*: Chamber Music Columbus presents the Ying Quartet in the Southern Theater, 8 pm.
- October 16-18: BalletMet presents Swan Lake, Ohio Theater. There's a reason why this is the world's best loved ballet and there's a reason why BalletMet dances to critical hosannas. I'm a big fan of Gerard Charles and Company.
- October 23* and 25: Opera Columbus, Pagliacci, Ohio Theater. Laugh clown, laugh. Always great to cheer our local opera company. This opera depends upon a strong tenor. Eduardo Villa from the Met makes me hopeful.
- November 14/15* ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, Southern Theater. Tim Russell comes home to conduct Beethoven's Symphony 6 - the Pastorale.
- November 20 and 22**: Columbus Symphony, Ohio Theatre: Mahler Symphony No. 9 in D conducted by Gunther Herbig.
- November 24-December 13: CATCO Riffe Center, Colin MacPherson's The Seafarer, set in Dublin on Christmas Eve. This is a compelling script that promises fine acting from CATCO
- December 3-27: Studio Theater, Riffe Center. CATCO presents David Sedaris's The Santaland Diaries. Hysterical. A perfect antidote to the usual ho-ho-ho fare.
- December 6 St. Joseph Cathedral, 4 pm A Service of Lessons and Carols. I recently heard the Cathedral Men's choir sing compline. It was exquisite. Lessons and Carols should be wonderful. Not to be missed in that great space.
- December 11-23 Ballet Met Ohio Theatre, Nutcracker. Of course!

- CAPA presents Porgy and Bess at the Southern Theatre in February.
- Ohio State's School of Music presents Beethoven's Fiedlio in concert on March 10* in Mershon Auditorium. Kathleen Sasnett and Anthony Dean Griffey star and Marshall Haddock conducts.
- Columbus has two new theater companies, Evolution Theatre and Available Light.
- I want to know more about Tim Veach and the Columbus Dance Theater.
- CAPA has brought the Lincoln Theater back to life and...
