Buckeye Lake Town Hall Meeting Draws Nearly 500 People
The future of Buckeye Lake and it’s troubled dam were the subject of a town hall meeting that brought out nearly 500 people Monday night.
The packed meeting followed a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers report last week saying the dam is at high risk of failure, which would endanger the lives of some 3,000 people.
Area resident Lois Holler says those concerns are overblown.
“It’s not going to burst. If it does burst, you’re not going to get an eight-foot wall (of water) out of a six-foot body,” Holler said.
The corps of enginners blames the 177-year-old earthen dam’s condition largely on many homes built on top of the dam.
